Located in the gem destination of Northern Michigan, Traverse City, The National Cherry Festival is a nostalgic celebration of a plentiful cherry harvest encompassing an abundance of people and cherries over many many years. The Cherry Capital of the World appeals to locals and tourists alike. Hosting many events and traditions, the festival celebrates cherries and community.

With family roots in the Traverse area, Madi has many childhood memories of the Cherry Festival. The process of performing historical and demographic research, mind mapping, and sketching brought to mind the basic form of the cherry. The pit, or core of the cherry, led to the concept of core memories. This influenced the circular forms throughout the poster series with cutouts representing cores and photographs appearing from the centers. The Risograph printing technique was used to capture the historical nature of the event and to preserve the hand-done aspects throughout the project.
